Invermoriston is a beautiful village on the west shore of Loch Ness and is a great location for touring the Highlands of Scotland and walking the Great Glen Way, with sights to see & things to do.

This beautiful village on the west shore of Loch Ness is a popular tourist resort in a good location for touring the Highlands of Scotland and walking the Great Glen Way. Places of interest in the village include St Columba’s Well, Telfords Bridge and the Falls of Invermoriston.

St Columba is said to have defied the local druids by drinking from the well upon which they had placed a curse. The Glenmoriston Heritage Group have built a viewing platform for this site. The village expanded from 1813 with a new road system opening up, making access easier with the construction of one of Thomas Telford’s famous bridges, which was built over the River Moriston to help improve Highland communications. The bridge was started in 1805 and was completed in 1813.

The River Moriston descends rapidly from a point just above Telford’s bridge, but the Falls are best viewed from the old Summer House slightly downriver from the modern road bridge. Invermoriston is just 6 miles north along the A82 from Fort Augustus and 26 miles from The Capital of the Highlands, Inverness and 36 miles to Fort William. If you take the A887 from the village you can travel through the beautiful Glenmoriston and onwards to the Skye Bridge [which is only one hour by car] onto the famous Isle of Skye. The centrally located Glenmoriston Millennium Hall, next to the main car park, offers a variety of activities and attractions throughout the year and houses the local toilets and bus stop close by.

Invermoriston Community Shop

Invermoriston community shop was set up by a local group of people, the shop is the heart of the village.
We have opened our little shop for visitors and the local community, it is the only shop in between Fort Augustus and Drumnadrochit and we cater for all your snacks and foods.
We also have a number of local artists and crafters who stock our little shop. All crafters are from within a 10 mile radius of the shop, with a lovely variety of tempting goods on offer.

Mountaineer, Photographer and Writer

Ian Evans is a mountaineer, photographer and writer on the mountains of Britain and The Himalaya. Born and educated in Liverpool, he now lives in the village of Invermoriston in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland where he enjoys easy access to most of Scotland’s finest mountains.

Ian’s portfolio reflects his passion for high mountains and wild places, and many of his chosen viewpoints are beyond the reach of the traditional landscape photographer, requiring detailed planning, preparation, determination and a high level of fitness and commitment.

He is a sensitive observer of landscape and light; his love for, and understanding of this environment is reflected in every image.
