Spend the day in the town of Aviemore, in the Cairngorms. The town is popular for skiing and other winter sports, and hill-walking in the Cairngorm Mountains. There are excellent views of the Cairngorms from various places within the town, especially from the railway station. The Aviemore stone circle is located within a residential neighbourhood of the town.
Also within the Cairngorms National Park is The Highland Wildlife Park, a 105-hectare safari park and zoo near Kingussie. The park is run by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and visitors can experience Scottish wildlife, past and present, in the setting of the Scottish Highlands. On show are a variety of animals found in present-day Scotland, animals that were once present, hundreds, even thousands of years ago, and in mountainous regions all over the globe. Other animals introduced to the park include wolverines, snow leopards, bison and even polar bears. Visitors drive around the Main Reserve in their cars and then move on to a walk-round area.
